Skype
Unfortunately, Skype does not allow you to use the software
for free. But it is a very cheap alternative to someone that cannot afford to
pay for a mobile plan. The only problem I have seen is that the quality will
not be that great at most times, whereas a set mobile plan will be better and
more effective at providing a secure and quality connection to those you wish
to talk to.
Instant
Messaging
The first two that come to mind are Discord and Slack. Slack
is a more business-based platform, whereas Discord seems to be more relaxed. You
could use Discord for small-time things, such as admin(s) and moderators on a
website or server keeping communication to each other; due to the ability to be
a mobile app and a program for computers, it makes this process a lot
easier. Even the APUS E-Sports team uses Discord to communicate about our classes and share events that are happening. Making it more
preferred for lax communication.
